No wallet-to-wallet transfer on FASTag
You have balance on a sold car’s tag. The new car tag is empty. Most issuers will not pour one wallet into the other.
Kagal plaza in sight, two family cars, money stuck on the hatchback you already sold. The SUV tag is dry. You hunt for a transfer button that is not there.
The two family cars is the least interesting object in this scene. The interesting objects are the NETC flag, the Kotak and HDFC wallet, and the tag ID. FASTag wallets are prepaid accounts tied to a tag ID and an issuer. They are not UPI handles you can pay between freely. Closure refund, if any, goes by the issuer rule, often back to a bank account, not into another tag.
What broke at Kagal
NH-48 Kolhapur belt does not host a debate club. If the boom stays down or the SMS looks insane, treat it as a file problem. Typical roots for this case:
- Product design: each tag is a separate prepaid store.
- Different issuers cannot peer-transfer.
- Even same bank may block tag-to-tag to stop mule flows.
- Sold-car wallet still legally the old account.
- People confuse UPI ‘pay any number’ with FASTag.
If both cars are yours and both tags are same issuer, still expect no transfer. Recharge the one that will face Kagal.
Check status before the next booth
Open both issuer apps. Do not start with a random Google number and do not start with a shout.
- Read the issuer FAQ for refund on closure.
- See if a family add-on exists — rare, do not invent it.
- Recharge the live tag from UPI. Treat the old balance as a closure case.
If MyFASTag and Kotak and HDFC disagree, believe neither blindly. Screenshot both. The plaza reader believes the live NETC image, which usually follows the issuer.
Raise the dispute without theatre
Residual refunds can take days. Do not plan a trip on that incoming credit.
- Close the old tag and ask for residual refund to the linked account.
- Keep sale proof so the old tag is not left live.
Money returns on issuer time. It does not return because you blocked a lane. If cash was taken as well as a tag debit, keep the paper slip. That pair is how double-pay stories get taken seriously.
Do not do this in the lane
- Do not send UPI to a friend ‘because his tag is the same bank’.
- Do not swap stickers between cars to move balance. Mapping will break.
- Do not use a tout who ‘transfers’ by taking both phones.
You still need a way through Kagal for this one trip: the lane they assign, the handheld, or cash with a receipt. Then you leave. The repair is in both issuer apps.
Four questions people ask after this mess
1. Why did a YouTube video show transfer?
Old UI, fleet products, or fiction. Look at your live app.
2. Can NPCI move the money?
You work through the issuer. NPCI is the rail, not your customer desk.
3. What if the old tag is already black?
Closure/refund still goes through the issuer, not the plaza.
4. Is this a Fastag Atka payment service?
No. We do not move wallets. Official bank or authorized app only.
Short note
Toll rules, class tables, and bank menus change. The official issuer app is the final word. Fastag Atka is not an NHAI office. Recharge only through your official bank or authorized app. Do not clone a tag.
At Kagal the practical move is still the same: move the vehicle out of the live conflict line if the staff point you to a bay, then work both issuer apps. A warden can confirm a handheld read. A warden cannot rewrite Kotak and HDFC KYC, cannot complete your UPI, and cannot clone a better sticker. People lose twenty minutes arguing the wrong desk.
Carry the vehicle number as printed on the RC, the tag ID on the inlay sleeve or sticker edge, and the time. Those three facts travel through every ticket. Stories about a rude horn do not. If you change phones, keep the registered mobile alive. If you sell the two family cars, close the tag. If you buy a two family cars, do not inherit a stranger’s wallet.
The highway will still be there after you file. The point of Fastag Atka is to give you the booth-side order: status, then money path, then dispute, then stop. Official issuer app is the final word when a menu label here drifts. Toll circulars change. We do not pretend to be the gazette.
If a stranger offers a duplicate tag, a “black to green” paid WhatsApp, or a QR that is not inside the official issuer app, walk. Recharge only through the official bank or authorized FASTag channel. Fastag Atka does not take wallet money at hello@fastagstuck.space.
Keep both issuer apps logged in on a phone that travels with the two family cars. Check status on NH-48 Kolhapur belt trips the night before, not under the antenna at Kagal. If the ledger and the plaza disagree, screenshot both clocks and file once with Kotak and HDFC. Repeat filings without new facts slow the same queue you want to leave.
